Also, there is a good service provided by Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) which connects the city to other parts of Assam as well. There are also private bus services available besides government services.
So here are the 5 best places to visit in Sivasagar which I personally visited and found it worth visiting and quite beautiful.
Sivasagar Shivadol is a major tourist attraction of Assam. In entire North-East India, Shivadol is the tallest Shiva temple. Shivadol comprises of structures of a group of three Hindu temples. Vishnudol (dedicated to Lord Vishnu) and Devidol (dedicated to Goddess Durga) are the two temples that surround the Shivadol. The temples are located on the banks of the Sivasgar Tank. During the months of’ winter, the Sivasagar tank attracts many migratory birds.
So, for instance, it is the best time to visit. Monsoons receive heavy rainfall and summers are too hot and humid, so tourist attractions are more during winter in comparison. Shivratri is the best time to visit Shivadol.
Rang Ghar is a place where the Ahom Kings and nobles were onlookers at games like buffalo fights, wrestling, etc. particularly during the Rongali Bihu festival at Rupahi Pathar. The Rang Ghar is a two-storeyed building and one of the popular places in Sivasagar. Rang Ghar was once served as the Royal sports-pavilion. This building was first constructed during the reign of Swargadeo Rudra Singha with bamboo and wood and later rebuilt with bricks by Swargadeo Pramatta Singha.
The monument is one of the oldest surviving amphitheaters in Asia. In fact, another heritage archaeological landmark of the Ahom era in Assam. Large gardens and greeneries surround all sides of the monument giving you a pleasurable feeling.
3.The historical Joysagar tank
The beautiful Joysagar tank is one of the important tourist attractions in Sivasagr. This tank is a man-made tank that was excavated by Ahom king Swargadeo Rudra Singha in memory of his mother Joymati. Joysagar is the home to hundreds of migratory birds during winters.
So, the best time to visit Joysagar is winter as you can enjoy the activity of bird watching. Not only the tank and the park but also you can visit the nearby temples situated on the Northern bank of the lake which is visited by locals every day. In fact, this is the best place to spend your evenings and mornings in the bliss of cool breeze. I was there for at least one hour and it was awesome.
4. Kareng Ghar
The other name of Kareng Ghar is Garhgaon Palace. The structures of the monuments were made of wood and stone and are one of the magnificent examples of Ahom architecture. As well as a visit to this old-age archaeological marvels would surely give you an idea about the rich cultural heritage of Assam. This monument is a seven-storeyed structure.
5. Talatal Ghar
The Talatal Ghar is the most impressive of Tai-Ahom architecture in Sivasagar. The underground three storeys of the Talatal Ghar are closed for the tourist. The construction of Talatal Ghar was done as an army base. As the place has no proper light and the path is also confusing it is also very scary to enter the Talatal Ghar. One might fear to get lost inside. Besides, there are two secret underground tunnels that connect to Dikhow River and Ghargaon Palace.
In addition to all other places you visited earlier, you will be much amazed by visiting the places in Sivasagar and you will feel like visiting back again. Sivasagar is the bowl of history.
